Fabrics We Use
What Touches Your BabyMatters Most
Every garment at The Elk Baby begins with a material, not a sketch. Giving us the rare ability to develop our own fabrics from the ground up — specifying fibre content, weave structure, and finish to a standard we define ourselves. Organic certification means pesticide residues, synthetic finishing agents, and harmful dye compounds are prohibited at every stage of production — not as a point of difference, but as a baseline requirement we hold ourselves to without exception.
Every material we use is assessed for chemical safety, evaluated for colorfastness and shrinkage across multiple wash cycles, and approved by our product team before it reaches a cutting table. Organic fabrics are naturally hypoallergenic, breathe better, regulate temperature more effectively, and soften further with every wash. What we care about, above everything else, is the confidence of a parent who picks up one of our garments and does not have to wonder what is in it. We make our fabrics. We know what is in them. And we stand behind every thread.
Fibres We Use
The raw materials behind every garment

Organic Cotton & Linen Blend
Organic Cotton & Linen Blend
A thoughtful blend of GOTS-certified organic cotton and natural linen, woven for exceptional breathability and a relaxed, textured hand. Linen’s natural fibre structure adds durability and airflow, while the organic cotton component keeps the fabric gentle and soft against delicate skin. Ideal for warm-weather essentials and layering pieces that need to breathe.

Merino Wool
Coming Soon — New Collection
We are developing a new collection in fine merino wool — one of nature’s most remarkable fibres. Naturally temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking, and remarkably soft at fine micron counts, merino is uniquely suited to baby skin. Organic Cotton Quilt
Warmth & Comfort
Two layers of GOTS-certified organic cotton face fabric with a polywadding core sandwiched in between. The organic cotton shell provides a soft, clean surface against your baby’s skin, while the wadding layer traps warmth and delivers the gentle, cushioned comfort that makes quilted garments so well suited to cooler months. Lightweight enough for indoor wear, insulating enough for outerwear layering.

Constructions we work with
Each fabric construction below is produced using our organic cotton or organic cotton-blend fibres. The weave or knit structure determines the hand, drape, stretch, and weight of the finished garment — and we select each construction deliberately based on what each garment needs to do.
What We Never Use
Commonly used to prevent wrinkling in conventional baby clothing. We don't use them — ever.
Our dyes are OEKO-TEX certified and free from harmful aromatic amines that can be released during wear.
Snaps, zippers, and hardware are chosen for safety as rigorously as fabric. No exceptions.
Our fabrics are clean and unscented. Nothing added to smell "fresh" or "natural" — just honest, unfinished textile.
We don't just choose fabric — we interrogate it. Every material earns its place in our collection by passing standards we set ourselves.
